AIS Area of Interest

Dr. Ferguson is interested in designing surveys that are cost-effective and provide reliable estimates of population density.  His current research includes:

  • Applying the distance survey methodology to sampling zebra mussels.
  • Tradeoffs in survey efficiency and scope, that is should we sample a small area very thoroughly or a larger area with less reliability?
  • Can we use habitat covariates to guide efforts to detect zebra mussels earlier in the invasion of Minnesota lakes?
