MAISRC conducts systemic needs assessments biannually to determine updates to our list of priority species and identify emerging threats. In late 2015, MAISRC requested research proposals for research studies to advance control and management, prevention of establishment and spread, risk assessment and early detection of AIS in Minnesota of these key species.

The following fish species are currently considered high priority: Common carp (Cyprinus carpio), Bighead carp (Hypothalmichthy nobilis), Silver carp (Hypothalmichthy molitrix), Grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella), Rainbow smelt (Osmerus mordax), Ruffe (Gymnocephalus cernuus), Round goby (Neogobius meanostomus), Black carp (Mylopharyngodon piceu), Northern snakehead (Channa argus), and Zander (Stizostedian lucioperca).
